Experience

Surfing at Agnes Water

As many surfers have discovered it is not the size of the wave that is solely responsible for a great surfing experience but a combination of factors. Agnes Water has got the X factor that many surfers have commented on. What is it then that attracts people from all over the world? Let us introduce you to Queensland's most recognised northerly surf beach offering waves generated in the Coral Sea form the northern tip of Frazer Island and ousted in as it is forced off the very southern tip of the Great Barrier Reef's Lady Elliot Island. It's also the first surf beach when traveling south.

So are you are looking at the map yet to see yourself? The water is warm and clear with a selection of good beach breaks and the famous Agnes Water Point. We have a great set up to provide waves for beginners and intermediate surfers. The wave situation goes up a notch when the wet season arrives with low pressure systems forming in the Coral Sea and taking the swell to the next level.

Further to this, Agnes Water is a small country costal town with a large appetite for being friendly. So being welcomed here is a day to day part of life. Finding your place in the surf of Agnes Water is unlike anywhere in Queensland. Let's say you have more warm water per acreage here than you would experience elsewhere.

The Reef 2 Beach surf shop and school is a great place to get the best out of you surfing adventure from up to date surf information to the latest in surf boards and equipment. Every March Agnes Water beach is host to the Reef 2 Beach Longboard Classic attracting top quality competitive surfers from Australia and overseas. This event is usually the first on the longboard surfing calendar as surfers then head south to compete professionally.

Reef 2 Beach surf shop proprietor and local identity Wayne 'Grom 'Mellick is undoubtedly the driving force behind the success of surf beach culture in Agnes water and is the go to person for the latest surf weather conditions in the area. Grom can be heard every morning on ABC radio presenting a live on the spot surf update or you can catch the report at www.reef2beach.com with the latest images from that morning. Stay tuned and we look forward to catching up with you next surfing adventure.

Information

The surfing fraternity have long frequented Agnes Water and a major event on the long board circuit- the 1770 Longboard Classic - is held in March at the beach. It's a surfers paradise. From Agnes Water, 4 wheel drive trails extend south into Deepwater National Park and north into Eurimbula National Park.

Agnes Water is Queensland's northern-most surf beach
and is last in line of beautiful, unspoiled beaches that sweep up the coast from Bundaberg. Agnes Water and its sister township of 1770 offer a range of activities and holiday ideas - from relaxing at the beach, four wheel driving through coastal national parks, beach and deep sea fishing - to enjoy a soft adventure tour aboard an amphibious vessel. Agnes Water and the Town of 1770 are also one of the closest points to the outer Great Barrier Reef, with tours departing to Lady Musgrave Island daily.
